Phillip's Bio
I've been running since the 70's which included a few marathons, but ran my first marathon in 30 years this past May in San Diego's Rock N Roll Marathon. Running has always been a passion of mine, and running in the Boston Marathon is a dream come true. But more than that, it will be very special, since my niece Emily will be graduating from Tufts University this May,and will be there to support me in in my marathon effort. I'm dedicating this run to my niece Emily, for all her hard work at Tufts, and to her father, Howie Wier. He would be so proud of her, as we all are. |

Full of excitement, difficult, full of emotions, and unbelievable crowds that lined the course from beginning to finish. It was as if you were on stage for 26 miles. Race day began with several doubts in my mind, since my calf was still sore and I wasn't able to put in quality runs for the last three weeks. Needless to say, I wasn't sure what was going to happen in the race. Fortunately, everything held together ,and I was able to finish in 4:38, with sore cramping muscles. Ellen, Wendy, and my niece Emily, were there to cheer me into the finish. Thanks to everyone for their support in my quest to run Boston - "What a Day!" Sunday, the day before the race, we will visit the Marathon Expo, where some 200 vendors display their wares in hopes that you will buy marathon items. That evening, Tufts President's Challenge will host a pasta dinner for the team runners and families. Up early the next morning to catch the team bus to the start at Hopkinton. Ellen, Wendy, and Emily will meet me at mile 9 and at the finish...who knows when that will be. Still nursing a sore calf and hope an additional week will have me fit for the big run. See ya at the finish! View/Hide Comments (0) | Add Comment |
