Graduation Year: May 2010 Dear Family and Friends, Thank you for visiting my webpage! As you know, I'm running in the Boston Marathon this upcoming April 19th. I'm still not quite sure why I initially decided that running a marathon would be a good idea, but 5 months into my training I have come to realize this was in fact a great decision and something I'm sure I'll never forget. I will run this April as part of the Tufts University President’s Marathon Challenge (PMC) team. This unique opportunity makes me one of 200 Tufts students (check), staff, faculty, alumni (double check), parents, and friends from around the country, who train to run in the annual Boston Marathon, while raising funds to support nutrition, medical, and fitness programs at Tufts. The good news about running with the Tufts Team is that I do not have to meet the normal qualifying times for the Boston Marathon. In exchange, I am charged with raising money for their cause and moving my body 26.2 miles in a relatively timely manner. I don't anticipate that completing the marathon will be easy, but that's where the team comes in. Twice a week I venture out to the Mystic Lakes to complete our team training runs. Getting on the T at 6 AM in the dead of winter is difficult, but I know that once I arrive in Medford, I will be surrounded by excessively enthusiastic coaches and friends who are just as committed to finishing this race as I am. It is with their support and positive attitude that I’m able to find running for prolonged distances in freezing temperatures actually enjoyable (who would have thought?!) Just as I need my team to help me finish this marathon, I need you as well. My fundraising goal is $1,000 and every little bit will count. Tufts is at the forefront of research on healthy aging, a leader in combating childhood obesity, and in its work to eliminate famine. Your money will go towards helping Tufts solve these important problems. To make a donation, please click on "Sponsor a Runner." BlogPage 1Sun Mar 28 17:10:54 EDT 2010 Let the taper begin! Hi all - After a week of siestas and sangria in Spain, I returned to Boston this weekend to complete my longest run ever. This morning we completed 20 miles, which included the middle of marathon from Wellesley to Boston College (and Heartbreak Hill...again!). I have now run the entire course! Running 20 miles after a 2 week break was not the most pleasant experience, but I'm really happy it's over! During our trek up Heartbreak Hill we decided to name all of the things we can think of that are more unpleasant than running up Heartbreak Hill (see: childbirth, running up the Hill while hungover, root canals, hitting your funny bone). I'm currently using a bag of frozen broccoli to ice my crooked knee (...yes, it's officially crooked at this point!) Now comes the part of training I've been looking forward to the most: TAPERING. We dramatically reduce our mileage in the 3 weeks leading up to the race. Unfortunately, this means I also need to curb my Michael Phelps inspired diet :(
I'm getting very excited for the big day! I hope you'll come out to the course. If you'd like to jump on in and run with Lauren, Heather, and I that would be AMAZING. Any distance would help, especially during the second half of the race (...when we're running out of things to talk about!) Let me know!

Last Sunday I ran 18 miles along the Boston Marathon course - which included a trek up Heartbreak Hill. But what's even more impressive is this: I WAS ABLE TO RUN IN SHORT SLEEVES. Spring has finally arrived in Massachusetts :) We have a 14 mile run around the Mystic Lakes planned for this weekend! Tapering starts in April...I have a feeling I'll be good at that. Love, Kristin

I can't thank you enough. Last weekend I ran the Hyannis Half Marathon out on the Cape. Nothing like running on the beach in February! Luckily, we had great weather, and there was clam chowder waiting for us at the finish line (...only in New England!) Tomorrow morning we'll be running the second half of the Boston Marathon course. This includes all of those fun hills that Boston is famous for - including Heartbreak Hill! Wish me luck! Thanks again! Kristin View/Hide Comments (0) | Add Comment |
